Here is the message from Carbonite displayed at the very top of the www.carbonite.com homepage:

Will you survive a PC disaster?
Every year, 43% of computer users lose irreplaceable emails, documents, photos and other files.
Protect yourself with Carbonite Online Backup

Here is what Carbonite did to its customer:

When I — a Carbonite customer — desperately
needed to restore my files that are supposedly
safely tugged away on the Carbonite server

1. Carbonite tried for 22 days to restore my files.
2. Carbonite then blamed my PC and my ISP.
3. Carbonite now holds my data hostage.
4. Carbonite has my files. I don't.
5. Carbonite says its service doesn't meet my needs.
6. I am screwed.
Don't let it happen to you.

Heinz Dinter, PhD

Here is what I experienced
(it's a 59-page horror story)
… and the saga continues.
Will I survive the Carbonite disaster?
Innocent people must be warned!
Don't let it happen to you.

The definition at www.dictionary.com makes it clear

Carbonite
Car"bon*ite\, n. [Carbon + -ite.]
1. An explosive consisting essentially of nitroglycerin, wood meal, and some nitrate, as that of sodium.
2. An explosive composed of nitrobenzene, saltpeter, sulphur, and kieselguhr.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.

The Carbonite "Recovery" started on November 25, 2008
at 4:03 pm.
Today is December 18, 2008.
The "Recovery" process has now run 22 days — that's 528 hours.
Will I ever see my files again?
Jeffrey Robison, Vice President,
Customer Care & Operations
Carbonite, Inc
keeps assuring me
"Carbonite is still in recover mode restoring files."

And now the horror story of epic proportion told in the form of a back-and-forth
email documentary drama.

You will read about the audacity of David Friend, Chairman and CEO and Jeffrey Robison, Vice President, Customer Care & Operations of Carbonite, Inc. who could not solve the problem that would restore my files and instead blamed my computer and my Internet Service Provider.
It's even worse! They are holding my urgently needed files hostage by making unreasonable demands before they will restore my files and return them to me (see the December 19, 2008 two-page letter from Jeffrey Robison on pages 42-45 of my diary).
Are the Carbonite principals driven by greed instead of service? How shameful and unprofessional! What about sugar daddies
